AOA Members

All HKAOA Members, and Members of associated AOA Trade Unions are automatically insured under the HKAOA Group Income Protection policy.

To be eligible to apply for additional individual cover you must be:

  • an eligible Member of the HKAOA or associated AOA Trade Union, and
  • employed by Cathay Pacific Airways or a wholly owned subsidiary company, and
  • be actively at work (currently medically fit for flying duties)

The maximum age limits for each section of cover are:

  • Income Protection and Critical Illness: Age 60
  • Personal Accident: Age 65

The maximum benefit is US$15,000 per month for any one Member. The HKAOA has a Group policy providing Income Protection benefits of:

Personal Accident

This is a cash lump sum payment in the event of death or a permanent injury. The maximum benefit is US$500,000. Members may also purchase cover for their spouse and dependent children.

Critical Illness

This is an immediate cash payment upon diagnosis of any one of the named illnesses. In addition, for pilots, any medical condition that permanently prevents you from flying may also qualify for a benefit payment. Cover is available in increments of US$10,000 and the maximum cover available is US$150,000.

It is important to note that a master Group policy is arranged by the HKAOA. The association is the policyholder and therefore must make the claim under the Group policy on your behalf.

If you do not have an individual policy, you must contact the HKAOA to make a claim on your behalf.

If you have an individual policy, you should still seek assistance from the HKAOA with your Group claim.

I am now flying again!

I lost my medical when I was diagnosed with a kidney disease. After treatment I started to stabilise, but CAD would not accept my condition and CX would not fight for me. I was medically terminated. My only saviour financially was my TopCover Income Protection insurance. I am now flying again in Australia. Financial Backup

Having spent 11 years in the RAF and a further 20 years with Cathay Pacific, I was suddenly struck down medically, and lost my Licence permanently. Were it not for my TopCover insurance, life would be very difficult for me and my family now. If you have not taken out any Income Protection insurance, I strongly recommend you do. Despite the pain of paying the premiums it is worth it, believe me. I would hate to be where I am today with no TopCover financial backup.

Avoid Financial Stress

I have been off sick for over two and a half years and have been receiving monthly payments from TopCover. An absolute blessing

I recently lost my Class 1 medical due to an unfortunate accident. I was covered by TopCover and it was an absolute blessing to receive such support and assistance from professional staff during a very traumatic time! With very little effort from my side the lump sum for the personal accident cover was paid into my bank of choice. Taken a lot of stress away

The claims process was extremely straightforward... The TopCover staff have been extremely courteous and professional throughout my dealings with them and very quickly settled my Critical illness (cash lump sum) claim with no quibbling whatsoever. Simultaneously they were dealing with the processing of my income protection policy and have been quick to answer any of my queries, keeping me appraised of the whole process as it unfolded. Eased the Squeeze

Only one year into my employment as a First Officer I lost my medical and was grounded for a period of one year. Never in my life did I ever think I would find myself in such a situation. Thank God I had signed up for the TopCover income protection plan. Without many questions asked, my income protection claim was approved and payments began just as they said it would.
